Toxocara canis and Toxocara catis

چکیده
mopolitan roundworms that infect dogs, especially puppies, and cats. T. canis infection in humans occurs by ingestion of the embryonic eggs, which are shed in the feces of infected dogs. Toxocariasis is manifested in three different syndromes: visceral larva migrans (VLM), ocular larva migrans (OLM), and covert toxocariasis (1, 2). VLM is usually a disease of children 1 to 6 year old, and it may cause hepatosplenomegaly, lymphadenopathy, fever and pulmonary symptoms (3). Unlike children, VLM is less common in adults where it is, usually a benign and self-limited condition; the pulmonary and hepatic involvement of VLM has rarely been described. We report here on a case of VLM due to T. canis in an immunocompetent male patient who presented with cough, pleuritic chest pain, eosinophilia associated with an elevated serum Ig E level, and CT findings including multiple focal air space consolidations in the lungs, bilateral pleural effusion and hepatic nodules. Neurotoxocariais: A Rare or Neglected Disease?
Human toxocariasis is due to the larval stages of the Ascarids Toxocara canis (T. canis) and probably Toxocara catis, common roundworm of dogs and cats respectively. Among the helminthiasis, toxocariasis is one of the most prevalent worldwide, especially in settings where man-soil-dog relationship is particularly close. Even if it tends to be more prevalent in tropical settings, seroprevalence ...
متن کاملEFFECT OF TOXOCARA CANIS SECOND STAGE LARVAE ON THE HOST IMMUNE SYSTEM
We have studied functional alteration of immunocytes in mice following inoculation of Toxocara canis second stage larvae. Results indicated depression of lymphocyte blastogenesis in response to concanavalin-A, phytohemagglutinin and allogeneic non B-cells; however, B-cell polyclonal activation was not affected as indicated by the production of total IgG. In contrast, frequency of antibody ...
متن کاملGenetic Variation in Mitochondrial COX1 and Ribosomal ITS2 Genes of Toxocara Canis in Stray Dogs in Zabol, Southeast Iran
Background and Aims: Toxocariasis is a zoonotic parasitic disease with worldwide distribution caused by the larval stage of ascaridoid nematodes of dogs (Toxocara canis) and cats (Toxocara cati). The study was accomplished to determine the sequence variation in ITS2 and COX1 genes within isolates of Toxocara canis. Materials and Methods: Two hundred Stool samples were collected randomly from d...

BACKGROUND: Toxocara canis is the most prevalent intestinal roundworm of canid species. OBJECTIVES: This study aims to evaluate the effects of Toxocara canis excretory-secretory antigens (TcES Ag) on modulating the immune system in Experimental Allergic Encephalomyelitis (EAE) model. METHODS: Adult worms of T.canis were collected from dogs to obtain excretory-secretory antigens. Female C57BL/6m...
متن کاملDetection of Specific Antibody Reactivity to Toxocara Larval Excretory-secretory Antigens in Asthmatic Patients (5-15 Years)
BACKGROUND & PURPOSE Humans act as an intermediate host for Toxocara canis and Toxocara cati. Toxocara may be an important risk factor for asthma in humans. The aim of the present study was to evaluate immunoglobulin G (IgG) anti-Toxocara canis antibody, using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) in asthmatic patients (aged 5-15 years), referring to a clinic of pulmonary diseases in Arak, ...
